Hi,

is there a way to load worlds and especially large terrains 'on demand' ?
We have a .hmp file of about 130MB, and when the engine is running with a world, it consumes 180MB of RAM which is too much for our expected target platform (there are no other entities in the world, just the terrain).

Any hint for how to optimize this ? We really need a seamless world, so some on demand loading or clever tricks are appreciated.

Robert

One of these days somebody will make an end-all tutorial on this particular topic. Until then, here are some good resources for your perusal:

Vast Terrain Tool

Terrain Sewing 1

Terrain Sewing 2

Large Terrain Sky Smearing

Hopefully one or two of these links will contain information that you will find beneficial.

Thanks!

it's not that I don't know all the posts... looks like I need to figure out a script for sewing terrain together (or grab it somewhere).

but i fear that our biggest problem will become the workflow - how can we place trees, grass, and all the the other entities (ok, its multiplayer, so all 'real' entities will be generated dynamically anyway) when the heightmaps are loaded dynamically (and only the heightmaps, not the wdl worlds) ?
