I am very frustrated. I just purchased the Commercial Edition 7.8 and was going through the tutorial linked to by 3dgamestudio.net. The Script Editor works great, but when I went to open MED and WED to try and create some objects they were invisible! In WED I only see an all black screen from the Top, Back and Side grid windows. The 3D View window is blue. I tried adding a primitive but it isn’t showing up. The same kind of problem is happening in MED. I have not been able to see anything other than blank screens in these editors (MED and WED) except for some distortion and then a split second of grid lines. After this they are blank again.
I opened workshop08\work08.wmp and for a split second I saw grid lines on the Top, Back and Side windows but then they disappeared. I clicked the Traffic Light Run button and the engine ran the level. It looked great. For some reason WED won’t let me see or interact with anything in its windows and MED is acting the same way.
When I tested out GED I loaded loop.wmb from the car project that was included and I could see some things showing up there and move the 3D view around. So, it seems it may be okay although I am not familiar with using it yet so its hard to be certain. When the loop.wmb file first loaded there was some graphic distortion for a split second but then it was gone. (This same distortion effect was visible in WED just before the grids were displayed. Shortly after the grids were displayed they all vanished.)
I am using Windows XP Pro. I don't know what to do next, but the MED and WED editors are unusable to me in their current state. It doesn't seem like the software should behave like this. Please help me solve this problem.
Thanks.

OK, I found a solution for this although I'm not sure why I need to do it. I'm listing my solution here in case someone else runs into this problem too. I ran dxdiag and verified I have Direct X 9.0c. For some reason I have to open MED and select File->Preferences->Video Out and then click the blank button next to the video out text box. At this point I had to uncheck Gxl2BasDx9B and check Gxl2BasDx9a for both the 2-d and 3-d GXL Object. After doing this and clicking OK the grid lines appeared and I could create objects just fine.

For WED I had to click File->Preferences and then on the Options tab click View Options. After this I had to scroll down to bring the Video Out textbox into view and click the folder icon to the right of it. From there I was able to do the same thing I did in MED... switch the GXL Object dll for both the 2-d and 3-d views from Gxl2BasDx9B.dll to Gxl2BasDx9a.dll by unchecking the former and checking the latter. After this I clicked OK, Apply, OK and the grid lines appeared and I was able to add new objects.
