i can't understand why the light emitting objects light my models so badly!! Look what i mean:

direct link for the image -> HERE
I want smooth lighting like in the other games NOT polygonal lighting. Help pls. maybe there is a shader which fixes that - lightmapping or something like that ? smile

Did you load your model in MED?
The squares seems to be separate parts.
You can load it in MED, choose vertex mode, select all, and merge.
Save the model and start the preview, there you already should see whether it is smooth jet or not.

ah, default lighting model is vertex-lighting, what you ask for is perpixel lighting. I had some expirements with per-pixel-point light shaders, but i am not a shader programmer... I am sure someone can help you finding a perpixel lighthing shader.

also you can use normal mapping shaders they also have perpixel lighting i believe.

@Pappenheimer This is one model. in .mdl format. No seperate parts or seperate meshes.

@Quadraxas I know about the normalmapping shader but it slows the engine too much. But if someone knows per-pixel lighting shader or light mapping shader point me where i can find it. Thx

Quadraxas' response let me doubt that my answer was the appropriate. tongue

You probably meant the very dark pic of the model, while I meant the pic of it in the left corner, because that appearance isn't common to the appearance of models within the engine.
If we are talking about the model in the left corner as well, and if that appearance is one within the engine, then there is something wrong with your model, I can assure you.
Acknex didn't invent the shading of the models anew, it is all the same directx stuff.
Even the vertex shading on the model in the dark part of the pic depends on the distribution of the polygons on the model's surface. This means you can improve the shading of the model without any shader.

I had this problem as well until I used the mdl export from a program called ultimate unwrap. It has a "smooth" setting that fixes it. It has been several months since I last used it and I've not set it up on my new machine, but Ultimate Unwrap exports very clean mdl. It has also been useful in exporting mdls with animations of all things...and imports and exports a good number of different formats.

If ultimate unwrap isn't going to happen, I would try different export settings in your art package. What program are you using to make your models?

For spotlights, use XD1V0's texture projection, it's run on (Free) LiteC and quite fast.
