Hi all,

for a few months I already introduced "Stacki", a small minigame in which you have to stack building parts on top of each other in order to create a high building.

I've now updated some significant features to make the game more funny.

Download: Download Stacki (13 MB)

Here are a few screens:

In the new version, it isn't less interesting how high your building is but how exactly you've built it.
You get more points for each piece if you set it exactly.
For example, you can get 1 point for 1 piece, or you can get 20 points.

You can build through the clouds! If you build a high building, you have to build through some kind of volumetric clouds and you will also be able to see another sky and hot air balloons!
Furthermore, you can build your building up to the universe wink
(But I haven't get such a high building frown )

The whole ground construction is also physically. You can smash down the fences, for example.

Some other technical details:
In order to make it also run smooth on computers with less power like netbooks, I've integrated a framerate check. If the framerate drops after loading the level, the level will be reloaded with a much simpler version to get more performance.
If that isn't enough to get a high framerate, the resolution will also be set down to 640 x 480.
In a short test on my netbook, both of this worked just fine wink

I hope you enjoy playing and I would be interested in your scores and height of the building laugh

As always, C & C are welcome wink

Regards
TSGames

Hey, nice game!
Reminds me of those midlet game's on some of Nokia cell phones.
Some additional variation would be nice too (like, random details on some of blocks, or special blocks)

Unfortunately, I've not worked with 3dGS for a while now, but it was fun

I like this version more than the first one, esp. because the restart bug after highscore inkey was removed. I really dislike installation programs, though.
Sometimes, when the buildings tend to fall but on a slow way, I don't lose a heart when they eventually fall.
I will try to build my stack up to the moon the next time playing and post a screen shot. wink

@YellowAfterlife

Thanks! You're right, I've seen a similar game on a cell phone and thought "Well, why not creating something similiar in GS?" wink
I will see what I can do to implement different kinds of blocks.

@Superku
Thanks for taking a look at it! First, it's nice to hear that I could fix the bug which leads to crash on XP (I don't know why, but it now seems to work...)
I know the problem with the installer, I'm sorry for that. (I already tried to explained it in my old topic)
I know that when the building fall very slow, you don't lose a live. That shouldn't be a bug but a feature ^^ , because you only get +1 point for this (bad) hits.

I'm curious if you get it up to the universe ^^

Btw. my best score is 532 (47 cubes)

When I am at approx. 20 blocks, the game gets really slow on my notebook (1920x1200 screen resolution) and I can not get higher because of this slowdown.
It even seems that the block moves (much) faster to the side while in midair, does not sound logical to me, though (you are using the built-in physics engine, don't you?).

I'm not an user at facebook, so I see this game first time there. It actually is the same game idea. But as you mentioned, it is only 2d (i think because it is using flash). And well yes, i think it doesn't look so well wink

@Superku
Do you get this slowdown when you start building through the clouds or are you already above the clouds? (btw. which graphics card does your notebook has?)

Yes, I used the built in physics and I know that the blocks fly faster if the framerate drops down, although I already tested several ways of implementing the physics to work at any framerate, but as you see, it doesn't.

If you get this slowdown when building through the clouds, I may will try to implement an algorithm which will erase some cloud layers until the performance is getting better.

EDIT:
I've just updated the game. It should fix the bug that cubes fly "longer" on slower framerates.
Also, the game now will try to delete cloud layers if the framerate drops.
Superku, it would be yery nice if you could try whether the new version works for you or not. You can simply reinstall the game, it will only overwrite the game files.

i only have a notebook. i will see if it helps for you. oh, i am not sure if this helps, but my notebook model is a Advent 4489.

advent details:
Technical Specs
Processor – Intel Atom 1.6GHz
RAM – 512MB DDR2
Hard Drive – 80 GB
Operating System – Microsoft Windows(R) XP Home
Screen – 10.2 inch;
Bluetooth – No
Notebook Camera – Integrated – 1.3 Megapixel
Wireless – Yes
Weight – 1.12 kg

i made it too the clouds. it ran fine except for when it was loading a new block, when it was doing that it slowed down quite a lot.

only 18 blocks up frown

when i reached 15 blocks the clouds started to appear.

Runs smooth

even at the clouds...

first try : 26 blocks and 176 $

after that not more xD

some different models would do a great job - but nice so far laugh

edit: the clouds look really crap for me... i can always see where they start and end - maybe you can change this wink

Game is nice and keeps me busy XD.
Just a question for the slowdon(i never got one^^):

You are using Texshare arent you?(maybe if not, the growing texturespace is eating the performance)
