Hi folks, I am on a school project that I have to come up with a game. I was thinking of making something like plant vs. zombies. I know I need some sort of a grid system. but I could not really find any tutorial nor example about it. Would you guys have any leads on how I can start?

Thanks!

Game Maker is proberly a better tool to use if your just starting out.

however 3dgs does have some kool examples on the AUM's and in the workshops but you are going to have to do alot of self learning im afraid, hacking-up a tutorial wont get you far with 3dgs im afraid.

read the workshops
play with some of the aums
learn c

is my advice.

Hi

What you need is the Isometric Tutorial. I personally started to learn Lite-C with it, but do it only after going through the official tutorials. As I remember, its up-to-date Lite-C version is included in AUM-100.

it includes a simple 2D tile system on 3D surface, mouse and camera handling, and a simple pathfinder (really fool but might work).

And you can check my Pathfinder Demo too, if you need better grid based pathfinding, but my code is a bit messy... (http://au.conitec.net/ -> demos -> pathfinder demo among winter 2010 contests)
The 2D version works on a terrain or flat level, the 2.5D version can handle height differences of grids too (e.g. you can't go up to a wall if there is no ladder), and the 3D version uses a 3 level grid system simulating ground level and building floors.
