I'm wading through the massive help documentation (which is great by the way), but it boils down knowing where to look.

When I put a script into my project folder it doesn't show p in the tree-view on the left panel. I'm sure there is an easy fix for that.

The other issue, I try to assign a material to any object, but the dialog box that appears to me should have a listing of available materials is empty.

Would be nice if someone can help me finding out how to do that.

Little late for a reaction, but I may be able to help you with your second question:

, You mean the dialog box 'Material' in WED? And are you working with several .c (/script) files? If so maybe add this line to your main .c script file:

Code:
MATERIAL* materialname



, I quess you can choose the material now from the dialog box.
