DirectX has a limit of 32768 Polys per Model.
There isn't any other limit.
I'd made a animation (look on
http://www.spiele-entwicklung.de/3dgs/jack.htm) with over 500.000 polys at the same time. With use a special driver for Stereo3D (www.more3d.com), so there are over 1 Million polys rendered.
