You are off to a good start in that you have some of the elements needed to make something look 3d -like shadows - and that it tiles. A few more tips to try next. -As slacer said a common mistake some make is when creating the stone surface they use one large texture so you'll have something like individual bricks but a line, color or light of dark area of the stones surface that travels across several bricks making it obvious that one texture was layed on top. You'll can try several similar textures, or pick different areas of the surface texture and map them to different bricks, or paint over them by hand a little so these patterns aren't viewable. -The edges or the bricks are too sharp and even you can try using small push, burn and dodge or even eraser with some sort of grunge brush to roughen the edges. -If you saved the selection of the mortar area -or can select it by playing with the magic wand- you might try a coarser cement texture between the bricks and also darken the grout by lowering the gamma for example; our eyes percieve stuff that is brighter as 'closer.' It is unlikely that the grout which is shadowed by the bricks would be brighter than them. Anyway good luck, you've made a nice start.

each "texture" was painted straight onto the layer
ah, ok... then when you paint your strokes I guess you just have to be careful not to 'overlap' the next brick with one stroke if you understand what I mean. Look forward to seeing your next steps.

ah i also see what you ment about the light areas now that im looking at it with a fresh pair of eyes. it does kinda look like i've just overlayed a texture onto the image. edit: the lighter and darker areas arnt dirt by the way its just different colours within the clan of the bricks, for instance maybe where its got slightly burnt while firing or soot from the kiln. if you look at most bricks they are a mixture of 3 common colours. with light main colour slightly darker colour for areas that were over heated/sooty and then the burnt colour Edit2: ok i mushed up the bricks... dunno if its to much tho but i agree it looks better =) left the straight brick version up aswell ingame (texture scaled to 0.5)

Also with bupaje the clean area at the bottom middle and both ends is a lil too well ummm clean does appear to jump out at you Edit: Sorry hope you dont mind me posting these here just didnt want to open a new thread with 2 new ones about texture right on top . anyways after seeing yours and bupaje's post i started messing around trying to see if i could come up with anything. Well its nothings special but they tile so Heres an ingame shot. The one with the box on the wall i just made for fun messing around btw this is scaled way down to 0.25 just to see if they tiled. download them Here Again sorry for posting on in your thread.
