its because the 3d view in wed has its own ligthning, some kind of "standard-lightning", right click on the 3d view in wed and click on GXL -> GXL Properties and check "Level Lighting" and set the Default Sun/Ambeint bars to 0%.
Now what you see is how the lightning in the WED is the same as in your level.

If you want to mimic the shading effects in WED (and in MED), I posted a request in the user requests forum about two months ago for a simple shader code that mimics it, but no one has done anything with it. I've provided the best method of doing it, I just don't have the shader code itself, the only thing I'm requesting.
