I thought it might be a directory path issue, but let me describe what i'm doing. I'm teaching a class for up to 10 middle school age students in an introductory course in GameStudio. In this class we aren't scripting anything, we are only using the template scripts. Basically the only resources we are using are WADs, template scripts, and models. I'm taking their game from a a team com edition to a standard edition to (hopefully) publish and burn it to a CD for them. Any tips on the easiest transition possible for this to happen?

Make sure you have the same wads and scripts that are being used for the students, on your machine. That way, all you have to do is copy the WMP file.

The other problem you WILL have, is that the standard version has many less features than the commercial edition has. Here, you can do two things:

1) Update your standard version to commercial edition.

2) Make sure your students don't use features not available in the standard edition. EX: colored lights; mirror effect on bocks; etc... Most of these (like the ones mentioned), will not create error messages, but simple wont work. ex: colored lights will be monochrome, mirrored surfaces will not be mirrored.

I would go with step 1, but it depends on your budget, and how long the class will last. If it's a one time class, then I'd just do standard. But if this is going to go on for over a year, then you really should *upgrade to the commercial edition.

Thanks for that post xxxguitar511. I have been careful not to include anything not included in basic. We aren't doing mirrored surfaces or things like terrain. The one i wasn't aware of is colored lights, but if as you say they just become monochrome, that's fine. Yes, the standard edition computer will have all the same resources in the same directories. I will try just copying over the WMP.

that SHOULD work. keyword should. Unfortunatly, should never happens quite right for me.

Just give it a try, if you have any problems, just post them here, and we will try to help you fix them. Just make sure you can give us all the information you can.

Also. Make sure that all the machines are running the same edition. ex: 3.14 or 6.4.05. If you are running 6.4.05, then make sure you get the updated template scripts.
