You can do it. And more. But You have to read something about game creation (WIKI, AUM, other sources, not this forum only). Then try to build simple game, even just red rotating cube in blue space. Then try another harder one... from templates, for example. P.S. Can I make small nuclear bomb in my garage ? and how could i get started on this?

Yes, this has been said hundreds of times, but for the sake of not putting you through a search, ill just tell you.
With the right amount of dedication and know-how, almost anything can be done with 3DGS. Pretty much, if you think it, you can do it. So, that being said, you are going to have to do A LOT of learning. A doom1 style game can be harder to make than you think.

well, if this is your first game, I would attempt to make a very small-scale FPS. It seems to be the easiest to build and code. So, technically, I guess you could dive right into your doom project. However, I personally would get a feel for the engine before starting any serious projects. If you are not extreamly dedicated to making your doom project as good as you can possibly make it, then let that be your learning project.
Good luck, Raddaddy

I took an approach like that too. Since I'm much more comfortable with 2D than 3D, I made a 2D game. At the moment, it's on the verge of release. I'm fixing a strange bug with the save/load system at the moment, then I need the full edition access key and I'm set, short of figuring out Regnow or some other service to sell my game on. With all the practice I've gotten with my 2D game, I can do a lot more with my other 3D game I also have in the works. I'm likely to have other smaller side projects as well. The same could go for you. Start working on a smaller, simpler side project to gain skill, then, as your skill level increases, work on your dream project.

A word of caution, many times, projects that start like that never get finished. I have seen it time after time, and I have made the same mistake. A lot of the time, when you "learn as you go" you just get frustrated and give up.
I strongly advise you to start small, and work from there, as Ulillillia suggested as well. You do not have to follow this advice, but I am simply presenting you with my knowledge of the subject as seen in this forum.
Scripting is pretty much the hardest part of game design, for me. Second comes texture creation, then modeling, then general level design. I suggest you figure out what the area of most difficulty is for you in game design, and start learning about it. Then, after you have a good grasp, go out and start building tests, demos, whatever you need to help you learn.
Again, you could very well start your doom project now, but I fear that it will not get finished.
