How can use save your terrains created in terragen to be used in 3DGS?

Far as I know you have to save the heightmap as 8 bit RAW and make an isometric render from the top to get the texture

For Terragen exist plugins to export the Highmap as BMP and other Formats.

one tip for the rendering in terragen:

use the highest camera zoom-in when rendering the top-down picture,
and deactivate all athmospheric stuff, or the colors will get very blueish
