"Will we be able to develop 64 bit, DX10 games?".

In time, yes. But not soon.
There is a lot of interest from the programming side but there are not many users set up to run such a game. Right now, you would be lucky to sell 2 copies.

My understanding is the DirectX9L doesn't run on top of DX10, but it works just like DX9 does on XP. The difference is that DX9L is for Vista, and Vista has some new features that should make DX9 games run faster and safer.

I think it would be great if Conitec starts soon with a support of Vista and DirectX 10 Functions. 1. This Engine would be the first time ever in advance of some other engines 2. It will take us 2 or more years to develop a game for Vista so we could start now and not wait 2 years until we can work on it .
Thats the main mistake i think Conitec is making to wait until its astablished . What you think other development companies are doing right now? (Crytek) and so on. In 2 years there will be tons of games with DirectX 10 support out there and our Community has not even started with it

You can start your Vista development now and, when we take advantage of the DX10 features, your game will too.

I think the problem people are having is with the word "soon". For some people "soon" is the end of the month (or week). We're not going to have a DX10 version done that soon.

i'm sorry for the bump.
JCL, Doug, Happy New Year!
PS.
Can you take a look at Windows Vista GameExplorer in future release (soon )? I mean, not to redesign totally your engine for dx10 right now, but to make some 'visual shine' for 3dgs games in Vista.

I've already looked into Vista Game Explorer (lots of docs on the MSN website).

Most of it should be easy to implement, my only worry is how to handle the "Authenticode Signing" process (mostly because legal stuff drives me crazy). So far I haven't found a clear answer to "Do I need to use Authenticode to use Game Explorer?". I know it is required for a rating, but I hope it isn't needed just to run (it's a added expense and hassle for indie developers).

Thank you, Doug!
i think (hope, like you), you have to provide basic 3dgs integration with vista (like correct Flip3d, GameExplorer, etc.), not the dx10, at first. it's more useful for indies (and not only ). dx9 apps runs well on vista, so make some tweaks... and i wish good 3dgs sells in the new year for Conitec!

From what I've seen on the MSDN pages, even old A5 games can be integrated with Vista. You just need to create the appropriate GDFs using the tools from Microsoft.

You can find more information on the Microsoft Game Explorer developer pages
