You can export your materials from MAX into 3dgs. If you have applied the materials to an object in MAX, you can then use the Render to Texture function and select "diffuse" map type and It will place all the textures onto a UV map along with the UV coordinates. It is a little more complicated, but it should get you going if you choose to use this idea.
