Howdy. Anyone know of a good way to get from Maya to MDL while retaining bones? These here forums talk about MED's upcoming FBX support (which I'm eagerly awaiting), but I'm looking for instant gratification. (And, of course, a pony.)

Thanks.

(EDIT: Maya -> Deep Exploration -> Ultimate Unwrap3D -> FragMOTION -> MED seems to work, but this hurts me on a spiritual level. Is there something better?)

I think you can do it with the unreal format..

First, get the free ActorX Plugin, then export yr model, I think it goes to one of the unreal formats, then you can open it up in Milkshape and do an export straight to mdl7

The path you describes sounds nightmarish!

Yeah I really look forward to the FBX support! Then you could use motionbuilder, that'd be xslint.

It is. :) And on top of it, high-poly models seem to react poorly.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll give it a whirl.

You can export from MS3D to MDL7 but, from what I remember, the bones will be included but completely detatched from the model.
