Hello,

I´m looking for a game engine to develop 2D Casual Games (maybe some 3D games as well later on). On your site you mention that your product is capable of 2D, too. What about creating side scrollers, tile based games and stuff like that? Is your collision detection also working for sprites? Can sprites be animated? Are there any examples for 2D Games created with 3DGS on the web?

I´ve also checked typical 2D game engines like Gamemaker or Torque Game Builder but none of them suits my idea of a perfect engine. (the first one is quite slow and doesn´t create native exe code, the second one has a GUI which is absolutely awful.)

Thanks a lot for your answer in advance.
Marco

3dgs can use sprites so yes it can be used as an 3d engine

Thank you.

- Does the integrated physics system also work with sprites?
- Are there any tutorials or example sources on 2D based game development with 3DGS available?

Thanks again,
Marco

the physik system work also for sprites, but i think you mean panels.
And yes, there are samples for 2d games, just look on http://www.coniserver.net/coni_users/web_users/pirvu/au/tutorials.html

PS: 3dgs support 2d great, but you have to prgramm everthing, there is no visual editor

You can do a 2D game with two different methods. First, as a fake 3D level with a very limited depth; and second, as a true 2D game with only 2D sprites and panels. For the second case we have tutorials on the AU tutorial page. However then you need to do the collision detection by script.
