The book was meant to be (and is) a college text book - hence the entry level material.
If that was the intent, then the product description...

If you're an avid video game fan, chances are you've thought about creating your own game but a lack of experience kept you from tackling it. Now there's nothing stopping you! "The Official Guide to 3D GameStudio" shows you how you can use this amazing tool to master world building, establishing characters, and developing program codes. Inside this all-in-one book, easy step-by-step lessons show how to make your very own standalone role-playing game and also sell and distribute it. You'll use the popular 3D GameStudio game engine from Conitec. The accompanying CD-ROM includes a trial version of 3D GameStudio as well as all the source code, 3D models, images and sound files you need to build your very own entertainment product from start to finish!
...should have SOME mention about the game design that takes up over half the book. As it stands, the title and description make it sound like a GUIDE to 3DGS, not game design WITH 3DGS.
If this is meant to be a textbook, it should have been called "Game Design using 3DGS" and not "The official guide to GS". There are WAY better (and way many) books about game design out there already and thus there was no need to rehash this for over half the book.
