Yeah, it's just as super strange as people assuming for no apparent logical reason that virtually killing people in counter strike:source would actually 'teach children to become emotionally detached enough to have no problems with killing someone in real life'. Games are not virtual killing simulations, and off course virtuality is nothing like reality. You can hardly compare clicking a mousebutton with pulling a trigger and feeling a real recoil.
I tend to blame the media hype for this kind of disinformation, sometimes the media jumps on those false details and presents them as 'facts'. Really unfair for the gamers' and developers' point of view,
