Hello everyone. I have just completed my first model using GameStudio. It is kind of generic so I can use it for all different kinds of characters. The problem is that I cannot texture for my life. If you have any suggestions as to how I should go about doing this it would be much appreciated. All I need is a hint, technique, or something that even remotely makes this job easier. Thanks to everyone who posts!

I'm sure you've already seen this, but if not, then look through the manual that comes with and there's an [old] tutorial on skinning objects...

Ya, I did see that. What I mean is, is it easier to draw the texture by hand or use a computer paint program? should I use the 2 sided mapping or the 6 sided mapping? should I texture individual pieces of the model before putting them together or the whole model at once? Stuff like that.

Hiya.

UV mapping and texturing a 3d object is an art all unto its own. How you go about doing all that depends primarily on what the object actually is.

Personally, I UV map the object 'by hand' in place of just hitting a pre-determined UV style ("cylindrical", "sphirical", "cubic", etc.) for the whole thing. So, for example, If I'm doing an old wooden table, I would use cubic mapping for the table top and 4 cylidrical mappings for the legs. You then place these on your 'texture area', export as a bmp, and paint away. (for the record, I use UltimateUnwrap3D for most of the mapping, and paint either in Painter for 'simple' things, or fire up Bodypaint3D for the more complex things).

Hit the net and scour for all things "UV Mapping tutorials texturing" and start reading. Trust me, it will help a *ton*.
