omg! thats simply ill

depends... for a professional game that's not too much at all. think about e.g. half life 2... how much money that made. now i don't know what valve had to pay to use HAVOK, but i bet it wasn't cheap

The licensing is FREE. You have to register on their site to be a licensed partner, then you are mailed and you become a licensed partner.

You have to install a 28meg driver file for software emulation without physics card.

The licensing FEES of PhysX is for xbox, ps2, ps3, wii platforms. For PC it is FREE.

Yes it runs without hardware, but obviously slower (I don’t have a ppu card). As far as license goes, you simply register as a developer, and you can use the sdk for free on the pc platform. You don’t even need the whole driver stuff if you don’t have the hardware, just drop PhysXCore.dll and PhysXCooking.dll into you dir and you’re sorted, however I don’t think you should be distributing those dll’s without the installer.

The AGEIA PhysX SDK is now free for use on PC under our new EULA--for both commercial and non-commercial use. All we require is that you accurately filled in and maintain the *required fields in your registration details for this site ("My Support->My Settings" if you already have an account) and accept the EULA when you download the files.

I have already registered there way back. And the above statement is from the Ageia Pages. I havent looked into it due to being busy.

Sebastian : How slow and good would you compare it other other physics systems. Cam you post a working demo in 3DGS so that others can see how good it works on their computers.

Well some people compare it to havok but I can’t since the havok team wont even cr@p on you if you don’t have serious finance behind you. Let’s put it this way I can have 500 – 600 active cubes and still get about 60 fps on my “aged” p4 3ghz in software mode. I can sometimes choke the rendering engine (especially with stencil shadows) before there is much noticeable physics simulation slowdown. Yes I will do some kind of physics playground demo soon.

everyone just looks at performance but i think this isn't the most important feature of a physics engine at all. ageia reaches its performance with a lot of trickery but this comes with a cost. for example does a stack of about 25 boxes (with sleeping disabled!) stand without problems or does it collapse after a while? don't only look at performance with your playground!

Well you obviously can’t have everything, however I did not yet notice the mentioned behaviour (perhaps it depends on the skin width param). Newton for example is quite accurate as far as simulations go, however with 30 stacked cubes you will probably be looking at a slideshow. When creating a scientific simulation for example you might consider a physics library on accuracy over speed, however I don’t think that many gamers will be as fussy, as long as everything blows up to hell.
