When you look at the right side of your comments, you will find some buttons say "reply, quote, quick reply, edit". Use the EDIT button to change your comment ,instead of writing a new one.
I think he's confused because that 'edit' button isn't always there (you can only edit your post within uhm something like 12 hours after you've posted or something?)
