Hey Damocles, I've already tested your program, great chat program. But to get back at my problem, your program isn't working either on the wan side. So it's a router or firewall problem, but that should not be. Cause I opened port 2300 on the router en also on the firewall. It should run but still I get a black screen if a client try's to enter from the wan network. So hopefully you or someone else know another solution? Thanks anyway,
Molotov.

The next step is to deactivate all firewalls,
and open everything on the router.

You should only do that for a short time.
But then you can usually connect to your server, and then
try to work you way up by switching on the firewall components.

Maybe you simply have the wrong IP of the server.
You could also try to use some kind of PC Game with multiplayer funtionalities,
to try it out.
The first step is to get a connection. The problem is obviously not 3dgs related.

Setting up a server through a router is usually a pain.
Thats why nfs42 is running the chatserver and not me.

Show a screenshot of your router configuration and what firewall are you using? Remember if you are trying to connect to your own ISP ip address and your on the same network, there could be a problem with loopback and you can never connect to the server.

@molotov: you have also to forward wan-lan connections on the desired port to the pc-address on your lan.

@Damocles: I'm using a wireless router.

Hey everybody, thanks for all your help. I will try all your suggestions out but it will take some time, because I use my neighbours computer to log in as a client to the server wich is on my computer. And my neighboures are not home right now. By the way I'm using the windows firewall and I will soon post a screenshot of my router configuration.

You should think about disabling the XP firewall and install a commercial or free alternative like Comodo. Why? Well, it's easy as 1-2-3 to create a program that adds itself to the allowed applications of the XP firewall without your knowledge. Good luck!

Wireless routers are yucky for WAN connectivity.
Do you have a normal router you can use instead?

There is also another alternative and that is that you ISP is blocking your signal. Alot of ISPs will block any game-like or web-like traffic from their networks. Their philosophy is that you are paying them to use the internet and not host names. There is no easy way of finding this out except just calling them outright and asking about their policies though I don't know how forthcoming they will be.

but, it's not me who had the problems, my chat server is up and runs good enough for testing

yucky = bad.

Hmmm... so chat is running through the same ip and port and is getting through but not your other code? Odd indeed!

Why you don't use just 1 pc?

You open, for example, port 2300 (protocol: udp) and forward it to your computers lan-ip (make sure you've got static ip address in your network!)

After that, start the server with: -sv -port 2300

If you've started, now start the client with -cl -port 2300 -ip internet-ip

I also recommend you to get a dyndns.
