Seems that there are several projects going on that attemp to make blender GE a good tool for developing games:

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=83375

Blender could be a excellent tool for developing games if it had a good 3d engine backing it up.

I´d see two main advantages. First of all you wouldn´t need to export models from blender to another format and second it would also run under Linux.

But i´m afraid it will not come to a stable version being able to compete with 3dgs until years. Though i´m not sure and i hope they´ll make it

Maybe Conitec integrate Blender in 3DGS, replace WED/MED and able to compile the level in Blender is easier.

Don't forget Macs!

Humm well considering the speed 3dgs is being developed, I think that some of the projects could catch up with 3dgs pretty fast, maybe... Though the updates have been coming pretty frequently lately... Dunno about stability then. Anyway lets not forget blender 2 Crystal Space plugin. Crystal Space already has a competitive feature set .

@Fred: I said they should do that before, and I nearly got decapitated .
I still think they should ditch MED and go blend....it is free, and so long as they provided the source along with it(blender source)they could do whatever they wanted.

Everybody Poops.
here are some tutorials I made.

I'm working on both and I think even if 3dgs is faster and powerfull it's uneasy to use wed med and the other tool of the program. I'm not a programmer so learning python was pretty easy if you compare to lite C. you also have an logic brick system and you can achieve complex program without writing any code. A guy made a simple AI without coding anything. you don't need to complie your game to see if it's work correct it. you can make network games It's not far as 3dgs but some games are than most of the game I've seen on this forum.

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79382&highlight=silo

one of them . I don't remember to play a game like this made with 3dgs.

of this one

http://www.gameblender.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=818&forum=9&start=0

it's an early version but graphics shown what you can achieve on blender. you should try both because there are pretty impressive.

blender is free so it's normal to be powerless than 3dgs ( 900 dolars) but it's a dream for 3d artit's they don't want to stuck in programming all the time.

In another hand it don't fit to indie developper, so it depend in what you are looking for.

Yeah blenders art/editing pipeline pretty much beats 3dgs. No need to export anything and editing models, levels, scripts and game logics is all done in the same app. And the possibility to design your own workspace makes it even better. Unfortunately the engine is somewhat slow and has many bugs...

Seriously though, I'm waiting for a real engine to come out, so I can start working with blender for real. Currently I use it for modelling and renderings, and testing samuel's "cool new features."

Yeah Blender is my main modeling program even if i own Silo 2 !
Once you've practiced some with it you can't live it !

Now the 3D engine in it , is slow , not for hight resolutions and big scenes !
Let's wait future if they can bring a powerfull 3D renderer in it ?
But Crystal space is not the most powerfull indie engine (i've tested some
demos and not convinced in frame rate with very simple scenes) !
