Are you going to use A6 or A7 as developing engine?

As part of the marking criterea requires this project to be a mod for unreal 2004, the first version will be mapped in 3d Gamestudio, light mapped in an external editor and ported to Unreal 2004. But when we have submitted the mod, we will be on our end of year holidays and the team has commited to furthering it as a portfolio piece entirely in Gamestudio using A6 team commercial and A7 commercial.

The model workflow is a combination of Silo, Lightwave and Maya and the code done in UDE for Unreal, but our programmer will write new code for 3d Gamestudio after the mod version is due.

We are also hoping to convince the lecturer to allow us to pursue this entirely in 3d Gamestudio

The only thing I see what needs to change is the thumb on the Pistol I think it needs to be on the other side of the gun .

Started modelling the gun yesterday, I'll fix it up today and I get my tablet back so can texture, then animate

but i don't like main characters - they don't fit the overall style

As we are a team of 5 the concept art will change based on the artist, ingame the content will be consistant as only one person is working on the character and creature models

i'd like to see them with slimy parallax applied

Me too , gives me a chance to try out Silo's new displacement brush

Is it going to be third or first person game and how much action is it going to be? :]
Any game style you can compare it to? Resident Evil 0-3 or more like Resident Evil 4? ^^

Perhaps any zombies in there too?

The gameplay is quite similar to Resident Evil 4 (being that everyone in the group are massive Res fans lol). It's 1st person perspective.
As it's a true survival horror there are only two weapons, a handgun and dual knives and the ammo for the gun will be really scarse throughout the maps.
Each enemy will be a challenge in it's own to take down, therefore the player has to think wisely as to how to do this using there limited resources.
We were originally gonna have zombies but turned away as they'd been done too many times before, although I would still love to see them in lol.

Here is a nose at the design documents if you guys are interested, the programming document is a little sparce as we didn't know exactly what the lecturer wanted:

Design Documentation
Art Documentation
Programming Documentation

I'm hoping to have a thread going from concept to creation if people are interested

Awesome presentation Matt_Coles, very complete and thoroughly interesting.

My main project works on a similar theme, hired to clean up with limited resources so its good to see a similar approach happening.

My beef with a few educational providers within this industry is to stay away from high end engines like UT because of the false sense of Game Dev requirements using those engines produce and because software like 3DGS only requires a one off payment schedule with no hidden costs BUT anyone can be a 'real' game developer.

Either your host is down, or your account is down. I hope you have them on your HDD, so you could upload them to imageshack.us / photobucket.com
