Not really. I deal with depression alot. But sometimes I get weird ideas. I can see from everyone's responses that this is a futile endevour. Forget I said anything...

Draftsmen get paid, but it's a dog-eat-dog buisness. People will screw you over in a minute so you really gotta be on your toes and know your stuff. one screw-up and someone is there to push the knife in a twist it. I have noticed on these forums that people are very willing to help and lend a hand. There very opinionated LOL, but that's a good thing. Perhaps i will run with this? It sounds like it would be fun. Might fall apart, but would still be an interesting endevour.

Such a teamwork simply does not work.
One would have to coordiante all this, wich is a mess.
And there is not motivation for the single contributer
(since it is not compensated)
if his input only affects the game 5%.

Also the quality of inputs is so differnt, that someone would
have to throw out a big portion of the contributions.
And most people want to realize their own Ideas, and not
compromize with 50 people.
Big teams work for gamecompanies (that pay!) or for public domain
application software-projects. Not for Indy/Hobby gamecreation...

I was thinking more along the lines of something that would help the community as a whole to learn the engine as well as show of what the engine can do. Coordinating isn't easy, but it can be done. As far as compensation, seems like people contribute tons every day to these forums without compensation, except maybe the pleasure of having helped someone else out. I'm simply talking about a project that would expand the resources and learning of the Gamestudio community. Cause like it or not this community is pretty close to family....disfunctional lol...but family.

Hi Ilidrake, awesome idea as it is everytime its presented and one I very much favour so I AM IN.
BUT, you've got to take the advice here as it is all true and YET, even so, its still worth the effort because it just might come off.

Having said that, you need to take control and be the Director with a solid game genre, story (Dont have to be deep ) assetts all waiting to get made and have an ongoing post with a 'free to join' option and go hard with the definites who want to support your mission.

Something small, action packed and leaves the player wanting more.

Go hard out dude!

You can build up a project, if you specifically adress
the advanced and practised users here. (Skripting, Modelling, Textures, Leveldesign)
but they will not really learn much more by doing this, so there is not much motivation.

If you asseble some newbees they will lean much more, but probably not getting
anything that will impress the crowd, so they will loose motivation also.

If you mix advanced users and newbees, there will only be discussions about the quality,
and the advanced users will throw out most of the newbee stuff in the end.
This project would die pretty soon also.

Projects need to be conducted by a small team if you really want to make a GAME!
If you just want a collection of textures, levels or models, a contribution pool would work.

In this case, you need everything to be planned at the start, and you really need firm guidelines to limit arguing. Game plans cant be changed out of no where and people need to get stuff finished. the hardest part is the whole "getting things finished" part, all internet work lacks the aspect of accountability, but good luck anyways.
