Id software texture paging is only for terrain : limited ! OR if not let's waut for a demo ? Caus Quake Wars is very same engine as Quake 4 i played !!
That is very true since Quake Wars uses the id-Tech 4 engine (the same as Doom3 and Quake4). They "only" added the new terrain renderer with Mega-textures for terrain. This is not id Tech 5.
id Tech 5 will have Mega-texture everywhere not only at terrains, will have even better streaming for contents and support for pc, mac, xbox360 and ps3. Some testers of the Rage-demo told, that the Rage level loaded in 10 seconds and all the other contents were loaded afterwards in real-time while playing the game.
U3 engine also uses background-streaming as well as the Crytek engine does. This is needed for systems with less RAM like XBOX or PS. Even the indie-engines C4 or Unity3d use streaming nowadays.
This is just the evolution of rendering software.

Good to hear Let's wait for a real demo on our PC , to see if it's possible nowadays ?? Caus their videos didn"t impressed me , and tool showed terrain painting only. Not sure it can be used for anything else, caus it's paging system ?? Let's wait a real démo Will we find that system in indie domain I doubt and AAA games you buy will always have 5-10 years advance. Even today , any engine have all UT2 engine tools, capabilities etc ...

I can't quite see why people say those textures look very washed out. They look fine here, in fact I didn't even notice that those weren't the higher resolution textures until I read this thread.. I'd say that's a positive thing actually. By the way, I do have AA activated in UT3. As for the engine and game itself, in comparison I definitely think Enemy territory: Quake Wars is wildly overrated both technical and gameplay-wise. It's reall not thát different from Battlefield at all, in fact, it's nearly the same but with a bunch of objectives thrown in and situated in the Quake universe. Don't get me wrong though, because I nevertheless think Quake Wars is the coolest game in the Quake universe yet (except perhaps Quake 1, but it's style was quite different). I've bought Quake Wars and am very happy with it, but I've also got Battlefield 2142 and it's very similar.... The UT3 demo definitely looks quite a lot better than ET:Quake Wars does, even with the lower resolution textures. Quake Wars is not at all an ugly game and also looks fine, but all in all UT3 is looking better. In Quake Wars you have plenty of blocky terrain parts, but mostly you won't notice this too much. (which is a good thing off course). Did you guys play the deatmatch level in UT3 Beta demo? Those are the kind of levels I could play forever... With ET:Quake Wars you don't have the same kind of freedom in play-style by the way and I do not agree that UT3 is a 'slower paced' game. It's probably faster, especially with the addition of the hover-boards (those ROCK!!). Quake Wars really is not that much more tactical at all than Quake4 or say UT2004. I'm not going to say that UT3 (or UT2004) is better, because UT3 is a very different kind of game. Just like UT2004, it's not squad orientated and doesn't have classes. So naturally it will play a bit different. Still, I've noticed especially in online play that it doesn't automatically makes Enemy Territory: Quake Wars a more tactical game at all. Most people will simply do as they please, as happened a lot with the Battlefield games too... Having said all this, basically it will come down to what game you like better, but technically the UT3 engine has already proven to be much better than the Quake Wars engine. Cheers

Quake Wars is like a lot of people say : LOT OF BUNNIES JUMPING everywhere You can run as fast as you want , and fast like a good car during illimited time, jump llike Bunnies all time. The action is totally confuse for me , far from some others games were you must be carefull on your approach , strategy. NO real strategy and gameplay enought , even with their objectives. Far from BattlleField 2 ,where you can run fast only during a limited time ,you also not jump all time fastly anywhere. Just my opinion ,and it's Quake 4 engine , basic normal mapping, shadows, but it does the job really well and runs really smooth and fast, UT3 also

Try to play ETQW against bots and it is much more fun and strategic. Use artillery, turrets, mines and you will understand that this game is not only a hopping-bunny game UT3 does not only have blurry textures it also has this depth of field preventing you from aiming or seeing enemies. Very strange. I like the UT2004 more.

Friendly_Frank : But if you must play solo Quake Wars , not the goal of that game Don't know , but in team play , for me it's BattleField 2 and BF 2142 !! UT3 is good , and you can shoot from very far , even more if you use the sniper rifle style weapon ? In UT3 what i like is the team capture the flag in outdoors big maps (even if not as big as some good ones on BF2) !! Call Of Duty 4 multiplayer with it's personalisation class system could be a serious top over the top game ! And it's far from Quake Wars bunnies But for now i'm waiting pure gameplay and fun with Metroid 3 on WII

Yeah, TheExpert is right, it's silly to play Quake Wars against bots on your own, it wasn't designed for that. Nor is playing against bots very fun. Even in Quake Wars you'll figure out the most likely routes they go and you'll often end matches with huge amounts of kills just because the stupid bots walk the same way over and over (with only little randomness in their paths). UT3 is far more than 'bunny hopping', besides anyone who does bunny hop all the time is foolish, because you're an easy target if you jump around all the time... Jumping sideways, forwards or backwards is how you should be dodging instead and that has always been a part of Unreal Tournament (doing the double tap thing). Hence why it's a faster paced game, but perhaps you've never played against really good ppl... j/k Cheers
