First of all, i am very sorry for the situation right now, i can myself imagine this stress... I well, I have been through this in my childchood, almost exactly the same, so I can really feel with you! I wish you ALL the best and if I would be religious, you'd be sure my prayers be with you(but sadly I'm not religious).

Second, I would try to download windows live CD's or better even, try downloading the Ubuntu CD (newest vewrsion must be 7.10 i think), it is a live cd too and try downloading the pictures with Linux, maybe a different Operating System can help, windows goes nuts sometimes.
