well, it's out since the 10th of october, and noone wrote a line about it. so it's my honor to be the 1st.

portal's been one of my most eagerly awaited games from the moment on i saw the 1st trailer, the i came across narbacular drop, which is the inofficial predecessor to portal. well, yesterday i decided to install steam and dl it.

the principle of creating portals and solving puzzles, getting around guns completely without shooting once in the game is pretty appealing and doesn't wear out. well, as you can well do the game in 2 1/2 hours, it can't do. $20 for hardly three hours of gaming experience is questionable. however, after you completed the game, you have the chance to replay certain districts at an advanced difficulty level. nice idea, though nothing special.

from the graphical aspect, it's hard to judge. the boss looks awesome and shaderwise it's well done, though you don't lose the feeling that it's all hollow cubes with normal mapped textures, levels look like they have been vacuum cleaned just before the player entered - and the cleaner has taken everthing with it, tables, chairs, details of any kind. in fact, it reminds me of hl-1 level design, hollow cubes and a tile texture for all 4 walls.

in the end, you get more to see, the levela become more advanced and vary more, and the credits music is sooo funny - that alone makes the game worth to play.

may the companion cube with you!

Companion Cube! <33

Yeah, I've played the game and I liked it.
It is a good game and I don't mind the price (since I got it with the orange box, it didn't bother me so much). The game is fun, but very short. I wish it had more maps, but it'll be interesting to see what the community come up with. And yeah, I even extracted the mp3 of the credits music.

Lol, I tend to disagree... I found it became boring pretty quick because of the limited things you can do... The puzzles are often too easy and all in all the game simply is way too short...

I liked the game because of the puzzles and although the portal gameplay itself is awesome, I think this game didn't quite live up to it's hype at all..

Cheers

Cake is a lie!

It's nice to see that my school (DigiPen) is still producing top-notch developers.

Also, if you like the ending song, check out the artists website. He's got lots of free music, including Code Monkey.

Enjoy!

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Aperture Science
We do what we must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.
I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLAD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else to help you.
Maybe Black Mesa
THAT WAS A JOKE.
HAHA. FAT CHANCE.

Anyway, this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist.
Look at me still talking
when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me GLAD I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are still alive.
And believe me I am still alive.
I'm doing Science and I'm still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE
