Guess for your current video device and if that is to become your target system the A5 engine would have been better because it allowed software render which would be slow, but working. Installing the new A7 version unfortunately will not make everything better. The problem is your hardware.

I do not own a Savage chip and not know much about them other then what google presents, but maybe the drivers for your card are not installed and Windows is using the default without any hardware rendering. I had this once on a laptop with Vista beta and there was no driver for that ATI chip inside.
