Greetings All,

I am going to buy a Dell computer on Monday primarily for use with GameStudio, and some other software, and I wanted to know if it would better for me to get it equipped with WindowsXP 64 or Vista.

Should I ensure that I have any other functionalities on this Dell computer, other than the specs listed on this site?
Thank you

Peace.

for me I wait to service pak 1 for vista
the windows 64 not have good support of drivers and probably
microsoft abandoned all the windows xp in a near future

If you can wait with the problems take vista 64bits now
is the option with more future (microsoft continue with the support)

Do you have a link to the machine you are thinking of buying?

I don't have a 64-bit machine to test on but, in the 32-bit environment, XP is still better with 3DGS than Vista (mostly because of driver support).

I assume you are going with 64-bit because of other applications you plan on running (Maya, 3DMax, etc.)?

Microsoft announced earlier this year that it will officially support
Windows XP to at least 2014. Also in light of just released stats more than 40%
of businesses would switch operating system to Linux or Mac rather than
upgrade to Vista. There seems to be some serious doubts out there about Vista
as The Future of next generation operating system. Just something to keep in mind.
cheers,

XP is a much more solid Operating System for 3DGS and really all games in general. When going through Crysis specs on GameSpot they have a section comparing which OS runs the game best. Hands down XP won.

@peacerosetx
I don't think Tindusts information was "invaluable". It did answer the question that was presented.

In my country Microsoft setup a special support website where you can discuss your Vista problems in such technical way that you loose it if you don't understand. So in short you may help debug Vista while you pay for the inconvenience.

If you have XP license just install that and wait with Vista until service pack1 is released like suggested. You could also install both OS in dual boot.

As you know "invaluable" as per Webster's dictionary means: "extremely valuable, having value too great to measure; priceless."

I was giving Tindusts a very high compliment
