The topic says it all. I am using the http://wings3d.com/ modeler and just wondered if it can be used with the 3DGameStudio. I am using Linux, and A6 and WED work just fine using "wine", but MED doesn't, and moreover I like Wings3D much more than MED.
So does anyone know some tools for converting .obj (which is an export format of Wings3D) or .wings itself to the gamestudio format or something different A6 Standard MED can import?

this script exports all selected meshes to 3dgamestudio's mdl7 format (3dgamestudio version 6.4 and newer!).

I have 6.1. If I had the possibility to get the update to 6.4, I'd update immediately, but it seems like the Sybex users get only a smaller update which fixes some 6.1 issues but doesn't lift the whole thing to 6.4 (although I paid the same price like it cost directly from conitec itself - the newer Sybex Standard versions of A6 I've seen costs only around 25 Euros or something, but some days in the past, it cost 50 Euros and that's the version I bought).

if i remember correctly, your version offers native *.md2 (quake2 model) support. it's worth a try, what do you think? the md2 exporter is a standard feature in blender.

blender calculates some mysterious frames while exporting. I waited up to frame 100, which took me 2 minutes, and then I had enough and killed the whole thing. I don't know what this program dreams of, but my model is definitely not animated. It was rendered corrected in the render preview though, with textures and all, I guess it is just me doing something wrong in the exporting dialog. But I think this is not very hard with this strange interface.

In short: .obj->blender works, blender->.md2 calculates some frames all the time and doesn't come to an end

download and try the free MED. i think it can import obj and save them as mdl5 which should work with the sybex version.

i didn't read the beginning of the thread. hm... gamestudio isn't a good choice if you only use linux. i think the md2 exporter of blender is buggy but md2 is a very bad and outdated format anyway.

However, it could probably work. MED doesn't really work, but it still does a bit, which means I can access the menus and all, but the model views are just trashed and MED crashes if I try to add vertices or something. But import/export might still work. I'll give it a try.

btw when doing it "over" the free MED, does this add any restrictions for me (e.g. no commercial stuff or something similar) through its license?
