Also, run "regedit" and check the setting of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions. When your system is set up to prevent you from reading CHM files at certain locations, it's at this place.

If you can read only some CHM files, try to copy the files that you can't open to a folder containing readable CHM files. The security setting on your PC might be drive and folder dependent.

... I guess that I'm regephobic, but I can't bring myself to change the regestry settings.

I'll try to move the file to and from various locations on the partions on my hard drive, though .

Thanks for responding, jcl!

Good to hear that. I'm very interested in learning on which drive/folder you had the .chm file initially, and to which drive/folder you have moved it. This might be of interest for other users who have the same problem.

Sure!

I downladed the file from the Conitec server onto C:\Users\ (me) \Documents\ (me)\Miscellaneous\3D Game Studio Workshops and Tutorials.
The problem might have been a freek thing for my comp. exclusively, but I actually had to move it onto a virtual drive and back to make it work again (really weird!).
Again,
Thanks for your help!
