Just because it uses a software
Itis maybe possible to implement it in the graphic-card-driver but i don't see any other solutions..

well, yeah, but the graphics card is for accelerated 3d trasformations and shading. this would just be a usb input device.

you can have it cheaper than a wii-remote and big tv!

all you need is a webcam, a basecap, some cheap electronics(1 battery, some cables, resistor, 3 ir led's) and a bit of soldering skills.

then you download this program and youre ready to go!

http://www.free-track.net/english/

it works so that the webcam wich can see IR light tracks the 3 ir led sources mounted on your head and translates this in form of movement.

i use this when i fly around in ms flightsim x, or some driving simulation. its so great to use your head to look around in your cockpit.

its a great alternative for the expensive trackIR wich is above 150$... i endet up paying 10 € for the whole solution and my cheapo webcam does the job perfectly.

look here for an example video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2xfkcjPOIA

ok i admit its looking geeky, just make shure no one comes in the room when you wear your cap... have fun!

Yeah, that was pretty amazing, seems simple, but works well. I think this could really revolutionize games, or perhaps it'll be something else, but eventually 2d displays will have to be changed because straight up graphics can only go so far.

the games have to support trackIR wich can be emulated by freetrack, or some kind of cockpit freelock with the mouse... if youre talking about the freetrack thing.

so in theory if you build a game where you can look around with the mouse in gamestudio you could use your cap with ir's in combination with freetrack to look around!

This technique is already used by the more recognized cinema. Just go watch 'Meet the Robinsons' or 'Beowolf'.
Same concept, different approach
But it's still a nice feature for next-gen games

Cheers
