Iam not talking about a war here, so you misunderstood me in that case. Iam doing creatures and characters for both cgi(concepts) and games and I was talking about the process of making them and that you have to love it, to see the adventure. Because if you approach a final cgi or game character it says alot about who you really are, to have the patiences to get something done and not give up thats the real thing. So the challenge is the adventure thats the same for programmers, artists or anyone. I probally really like to see new tools, new techniques that help to get much faster from the idea to the final drawing or sketch.

But I also think that tools like zbrush , xsi , photoshop should stay tools and not become automatic content makers.

This thread was about the adventure and I already said that people that do art in any way, are doing this because they love the process, they love to make clay sculpts, they love to make music, they love to make movies ...

And people always talk about things to come, you can either wait for the next big thing or you can use your tools and create art now and live the adventure.

Right, but I've never said that, besides... those programs will still be useful even for games with tons of procedurally generated content. (By the way, now I come to think of it, Photoshop's filters and so on, aren't those already procedurally generated effects?)

I guess the future and it's changes is a bit like giving people a spoon and a knife to eat with instead of a fork and knife. You will see they will switch hands a few times before they start eating with a knife and spoon. It's feels different because it is, but not everything has changed.

Absolutely true. That's exactly why I don't understand people that are complaining about lacking engines, but don't actually switch engines or even try to make things with the lacking engine. It's often like 'nah, I'm not touching that before it has xyz implemented', which is obviously a foolish approach if you want to actually make games and not just mess around with a tool for no reason,

Cheers
