I mean, when i tried Max vs. Maya, im glad they had trials, i would never wanna go through the pain using Max ever again...

I have to disagree with you. To me, Max's interface is very straight-forward and logically presented where as in maya you are bombarded with menus and toolbars. Although i do like the way that say primitives like box, cone, sphere have icons on toolbars.

I have just dled maya as i think its best if i learn both the titans of the 3D industry. So far i still prefer max 100%, but they both have strengths and weaknesses. Max is more for game creation where maya is for movies and TV.

if i remember correctly, MAX (at least v5 came with it) comes with a giant chm help file with tuts and all the things you need to get started...?

lightwave even comes with a content dvd with lots of beginner >video tutorials which make learning the program real fun.

i dont know if someone else is posted this but this is the tutorial that helped in my first steps to max:

http://www.bakaneko.com/howto/computer/3d/character/page01.html

really useful, includes an intro to beginners, modelling, unwrapping and texturing.

its a character modelling tutorial, it explains step by step, all action you need to perform ,tools(and what they do) are explained.
