I think this happen because the light source is too near the object. Try putting the object further or reduce the size of the light. Also, I notice that when you increase the light intensity, the shadow gradient gets better. You can increase the intensity by increasing all RGB component of the light. Hope this help.

this problem happens with the sun too (ie : my screen click the link in the first post) and it's more difficult to move the sun (we can play with angles but it depends of the effect we want...)
It hurts to think that it has something to do with system specs. It must be something very simple we're not looking. I tried to enable Visibility Calculations, put Lightmap Ambiance to 0 (the tooltip says that '0=better shadow gradient'. Nothing changed. Now that's a pretty powerful demotivator. Let's keep looking and please don't leave me in the dark if discover anything.
In 3D games I have beautiful shadows....If it has something to do with system specs I don't understand...Why in 3DGS and not in other things like games.
In add, I have the same problem with 2 differents PC.
