I have a Passion in Making videogames, and so far this journey has been surreal and a wonderful experience. But last night, I had an experience I always get, when starting a new project, and that is Motevation to complete the game. I know alot of you guys can relate to me on this, because of the long process from concept to reality, but when thinking about how massive and almost unlimited, that this Game Engine is, you can almost feel the Desire coming like a raging fire, ready to destroy anything that get's in it's way.

The problem I am having, deals with making my current game, which is a Pro Wrestling videogame, the proccess is very, very, long and when I run into a problem, it takes hours to find the source of the problem, which is very fustrating, but eventually I find the source and fix the problem, but during that process, I sort of lose some of the passion I had, before running into that problem, and that experience takes away my motivation to complete the game. So I will like to ask you guys, what motivates you to actually finish a game and still have the passion, when you run into problems like animating, coding, etc?

It's definitely difficult to maintain that original motivation that arises when you first think up a really cool concept for a game...maybe even impossible. I've been using 3DGS on and off for somewhere around 7 years now, and countless projects have fallen by the wayside from lack of motivation over time.

I can think of a few things that help:
1) Set smaller, more realistic goals. For example, instead of telling yourself that you're going to create an entire RPG, make it your goal to just create an innovative battle system and then take your time and do that well.
2) Make sure you have a definite long-term goal. I think a lot of us non-professional game developers tell ourselves that we're going to make something really cool and then sell it and make some money. I think a better goal would be to develop your skillset and create a portfolio of your best projects. That way, if you decide to apply for a game design position later on, you can show them what you're capable of (which companies will ALWAYS want to see).

What I generally do is if I loose motivation is.
1) Stay of the computer all together for a least a couple of days to get my
head clear. Then most times the solution to the problem comes to mind
a lot easier.

2) Take a break and go watch TV and have a coffee.

3) Ensure I have comments in my code so that tracking errors is easier.

I have a good family and they keep my motivation going by compliementing me
on what I have already done and they inspires me to do better.

Anyways, I think you get the gist. The thing is, wether your a newbie or an
experianced devoloper, you will always run into problems. I reckon you have to
take a break evry now and then to avoid fatigue which can lead to being
discorouged to finish.

Hope this helps and keep at it. The rewards in the end can be worth it.

For me, I find such a state happens when I go too hard out for too long then get frustrated and I force myself to take a break.
Then I split my time into developing, seeing friends, going for long walks and even playing an old retro game like Halo for the PC or Soldier of fortune or something like that.
It works to a fair degree but not all the way, still, my motivation rarely fails me now a days

One of the biggies I found is that I dont document enough my stages which means that quite often, I have reinvent the wheel when writing scripts and that brassess me off no end

Im working mostly with problems - that takes weaks to get through them, but motivation always return when im trying out other 3dgs jobs and i saw - this is possible and in really isnt so hard.
Of course that dont help faster solve problems, but atleast is motivation to continue.
Also of course can done some time other things, but for solving that is useless and more time problem stays - more harder is find motivation to restart its solving.
