hey, I don't know if my question belongs in user requests, I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. Anyway I have a problem with the program Gimp and I was hoping someone could tell me how to fix it. I have a image for a skin of a model. With Gimp I make a part of the image transparent. Then when I apply the image to the model the entire model is transparent and not only the selected part. The method I use; I select the part I want transparent, then add a layer with alpha channel. Then with color to alpha I make the selected part transparent. So could someone that also uses Gimp tell me how I can make only a part of the image transparent. So that the model only has a part of it transparent and not the entire model.
Thanks anyway, Molotov.

You're saving it as a tga/dds texture right? Make sure you merge your layers when exporting as well...

I remember that it was quite complicating years ago.
You have to search for a detailed instruction via Google: "save with alpha channel in gimp" - these words should do the job. At least, that was the way I found out how it works. I don't use Gimp since years, so I can't give you better advice than that. Sorry.

You probably have to use a separate material for the transparent part. Haven't found another way...

It should be working fine then, I use GIMP all the time. If you want, you can send me your model/skin and I'll test/fix it for you (as always, all files will remain confidential and will be deleted as soon as fixed)

Hey xXxDisciple, thanks for the offer. I will send you tomorrow the model with two skins. The first skin will be the normal bitmap skin and the second will be my attempt to add some transparancy to it. This way you can see my problem with my skin and maybe see what I have done wrong.
