I am currently developing a game with the main character being a sort of slime ball similar to 'flubber'. Is it possible to produce some real-time mesh deformation that would produce a relatively nice looking soft body effect? I have looked around for similar things on the forum and in the magazines, but nothing came up that i thought would help.

Any help regarding this topic, or links would be helpful. Thanks

Hi,

softbody dynamics are a very non-trivial thing as you could imagine. I would say, that you can somehow write your own flubber-ball system on your own, but in general you should definetely NOT invest too much time to reinvent the wheel on yourself.

I quickly searched the net. The AGEIA PhysX engine supports soft body dynamics. You can get the SDK for free on their site, but you have to pay the full license fee I guess. Then, two other libs came across my way: OpenTissue and FastLSM. OpenTissue is in development since 2001, is still active. FastLSM looks even more promising and you can also download the source for free, though, it is released for non-commercial use only. I guess you have to talk with the creators of the lib first.

PhysX is free for PC-only development (including commercial actions). I use it myself and it's a really great and powerfull lib.

To get the SDK, just register at their site and accept their agbs.

Thankyou kindly. I haven't been working with gstudio for too long so i will see what i can do. I did see FastLSM and downloaded the sdk for that and played around with their demos but didnt get much more done than that.

Thanks again

i never tried physx+gs but you may need to convert headers

[maybe you may need to compile a gs specific dll,im not sure.]

i wont work just as it is.

I use PhysX in my own framework (Engine without tools).

I dont think anyone will ever get working directly in lite-c, you should rather use it in a dll.

Ok so i'm guessing this is a bit beyond me since i am working directly within lice-c. Would there be a way of achieving some similar effect?
