ok ok..
the way i intend to do in 3ds max is , Ill model in MED, and would make a lot of groups, selecting the faces that will have different textures and Making them as diferent groups.
then i would import to 3dsmax and use the group select mode ( i dont remenber the real tool name) and then i would texture every group or part with different materials.
Once its done, i woul export to MED and hope that everything comes as skinned as I skinned in Max.

is it possible?
