You need to extract the key.zip file manually into your beta folder.

So I had missed something! thankyou. I think I have proved that even an idiot can get beta set up, with a little help.

So to wrap up, once copy key.zip into folder you then run upbeta.exe once that has done you have to unzip the key.zip, and overwrite files....

I must have missed that in the instructions.....lol
Thanks Alex, and everyone else.

now I need a new video card as my Gforce 4Mx thing dont suport some shader stuff... lol thanks again guys

Can someone recommend a video card that supports shaders as my current card seems to not support the env_cube. I am running a NVIDIA GeForce Mx 420 which I would have thought would support a fair ammount of this shader stuff, but I get an 'unsupported on hardware' message when running the sample 'Effects'.

I am checking the drivers on NVIDIA in case I am missing something but it appears that my card is just out of date now. So recommendations for vid cards would be good. . I presume something state of the art is required, radion card maybe? lol. thanks again guys.

i think fixed-pipeline effects should work on your card but all the assembler stuff won't work. i would buy a radeon 9600 or something in this price range at the moment...

Thanks Mr.Ventilator.

Not so much card price range issue, more interested in a benchmark card that would be a safe bet for feature support for the future... From what I see the card manufacturers are as usual working in different directions. Would you say the radeon is a good middle ground card then?

In the effects demo, I only get the sky box, and briefly one ball has a wrapped shader, it then errors saying unsupoorted and the balls go black. I would expect some kind of fall back method which I guess just isn't included at the moment. I think you understand what Im getting at. It would be pointless to develop some fantastic shader if it was only supported on one or two video cards.....

BTW: I downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia, which promise better shader support and........thats right no different. lol.

Hi. A yet more basic question as I haven't got a clue. I followed the directions here added a reflect.tga and the code and apply the action to a model. I see it rotating but no reflection. I'm not sure if I am missing a major step or my card may not support shaders? I have a Dell Inspiron that comes with a built in board 'Intel Extreme Graphics'

I think that the Intel Extreme Graphics may not have T&L Hardware support. So it may not have shaders in it. The desktop computer that my mom bought also have an Intel Extreme Graphics but doesn't have Hardware T&L support.

Fron the Intel site "IntelĀ® graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run."

So does this mean I will not be able to use the shader/material features or do I have to modify them somehow to run?
