Inago Rage (Q1, 2004) Also looking for playtesters

Inago Rage by Dejobaan Games (www.dejobaan.com) is currently in beta-test. Above are some of the images from our in-production press package.

Left column, top-to-bottom:

1. Mock-city, near ground level
2. "Swarm test" for sheer number of enemies
3. A "Parade Dragon" winding between towers
4. Player floating above the mock-city

Right column, top-to-bottom:

1. Seekers and Parade Dragons in an arena
2. In-game editor editing the same arena
3. Particle effects test
4. Constructing a simple arena from scratch

Inago Rage is planned for release in Q1, 2004. We are currently looking for playtesters. If you are interested, feel free to drop us an e-mail at support@dejobaan.com.

It's good to see a 3DGS project in a mainstream rag. However, I've never seen a game in that particular section, yet, that doesn't get ripped to pieces and for no good reason. It's like, "thanks for the plug even though I know you're going to say something smart and off color about it". Upon rereading about yours, it seems my observation is correct. Still, they did attach a couple pluses and the small blurb is better than nothing.

How did you make everything glow so much, are they from the engine (flag or c-script) or did you code shaders?

It's all particles and additive transparency (flare/bright) over colorful skycubes. For example, in the above image, the top left consists entirely of sprites and streaked particles; the top right are models; and the bottom images are a combination of particles and models. Shader access was implemented in A6 after we'd pretty much finalized the game's look, but we're hoping it'll open up some possibilities when we develop an expansion pack.

I've never seen a game in that particular section, yet, that doesn't get ripped to pieces and for no good reason. It's like, "thanks for the plug even though I know you're going to say something smart and off color about it".

Indeed! I didn't feel so bad that they dinged Inago, given some of the comments they've written about other games. Since, in each of the Digital Underground blurbs, they have the headings, "Word on the street" and "Sounds kinda beat," I think they're obligated to be on the skeptical side.

On the bright side, they ended on what I thought was an upbeat tone: "Tinkers in training should keep their eyes peeled for this game's impending release."

I can see this game being popular. The 'look' would seem to blend in well for 'party mode' with some good music and a bunch of friends. The idea of being able to easily create and share levels is a big plus in my mind as there are plenty of would be game creators that would love to put something out there i.e. "Check out my cool Inago Rage levels!"

Anyway, all the best.
