USA Bass Sales Hit 66,375.
Hi Gang,
I just got my royalty statement from Valusoft.
Total sales of USA Bass to date is 69,988, total returns is 3613. Leaving total sales through the channel of 66,375 units.
My other 2003 title Veggie Tales Creativity City has sold through 40,661 units.
I am in discussions for a sequel to USA Bass right now. I am trying to decide between 3DGS and Cipher as the engine to use for the sequel. They both have their plus's and minus's, the great thing is both engines are capable of doing the job.
I have a total of over 107,000 units sold of my 2003 developments as an Indie.
I am working hard to get the 2004 products out before XMAS.

hahaha... welll, lets seeeee.... (whips out my trusty calc applet) if he's makin' $3 clean on each license sold, which seems a lil on the low side to me, but... then he's already taken in close to $180,000 just on that one title... not toooo shabbbby all things considered... plus, i am just guessing on what he's contracted for, for each sale, and am probably way off anyway... i'll let the man do his own talking --Mike

The game sold enough that my royalty. 20 Percent of gross, has covered my advance.
My other title has not generated enough royalties to cover the advance. So, my USA Bass profit is being absorbed by the slower selling product.
I am trying to remedy this situation with the sequel.
I have spoken to Valusoft and they would like me to stay with 3DGS A6 for the sequel. Sales are strong and support issues are low, why fix something when its not broken.

The other game "Veggie Tales Creativity City" is a 2D based Paint and Print program I created using C++ and Microsofts GDI Plus system calls. Because of the Big Idea license my royal portion was small. I opted to take alot of money up front in an advance.
I personally like GDI Plus alot. Anyone doing Windows 2D programing with graphics should use it. It's free, it ships will all XP systems, you can install a runtime DLL for non XP systems, its fast and reliable.
I have titles under development in Cipher right now. These are slated for release later this year. I have a publishing partner for these programs and we are very close to finalizing the distribution deal. It has taken many months, to get this new deal put together.
I will be returnnig to 3DGS for USA Bass 2,per Valusofts request. I will try and take advantage of all the new cool things that have been added to 3DGS over the past year.
I want shader effects for water, boats, fish, and fisherman, I am dreading writing shader ASM code. I plan on using Marco's physics system to simulate fishing line.
I will be trolling around this forum looking for advice on Shaders, Physics, and outdoor environments over the next 60 days.

Ken, have you considered selling your unsold 'looking for a home' games to some sort of games on demand service? I tried out the Yahoo games on demand service and it seems pretty popular. http://gamesondemand.yahoo.com/play they use this product technology to deliver PC games via the net http://www.exent.com/They license mostly existing titles it seems but who knows maybe one of these servics would be interested in exclusive games?

I built a Demo last year with 3DGS but it did not look polished enough to show a publisher. I needed shadows to make an impact one the scene. One of the problem's was when I walked my character into the shadows, they melted and lost shape. JCL did not have an answer for that problem. Once shadows cast from models are clipped like the Models in A6 I can not use A6 for the Storm Chaser game.
Atmosphere effects are hard. Lots of particles, alpha channels, and shader techniques. 3DGS can support these but those darn melting shadows drive me nuts.
Its on my list of games I pitch but I am still looking for the right 3D engine for that game.
