Intense Ai: Get the Demo Now! (and screenies too!)

Hello everyone!

I saved my 100th post for this really special occasion.

The very first demo of Intense Ai is out. Please take the time to download it and tell me what you think of it. Basic features are there, so you can get a hint of how the Basic version of the ai Series will look like.

I apologise in advance for the size of this demo. It's something less than 50mb, but do give it a shot cause it's well worth it. If you find that too much for you though, I guess you'll have to do with some screens instead..

The features of the Intense Ai engine go as follows:

Nodeless Pathfinding (You don't have to spend hours placing nodes in your levels any more. Ai is capable of handling itself just fine..)

Advanced Cover Tactics (Using the latest technology on cover Tactics, as used in Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. Just build your level and let our Bots worry about where to hide)

Alliances (If a team of gangsters meet up with an FBI squad, hell will break loose! You make the teams, and bots will stick to them!)

Plug and Play (Does C-Script looks like Greek to you? No worries, you can install Intense Ai without typing a single line of Code. If you need to configure your bots properly, you can now do it through WED instead!)

Template 6 Friendly (You don't like the templates? That's fine, our engine will work without them. But if you do, Intense Ai will happily accept any Template 6 weapons you've made already and play along realy nice with your existing Template 6 project.


If you played the demo, and you felt like the models you saw should actually be in your game as well, well I guess this is your lucky day.. Models are on sale as well.

Everything was made by the very talented Blattsalat we all know and love, and he carries a big selection of ww2 models that will be available for sale as well, under the name of 'Intense Ai - ww2 model pack'

The pack will include

Humanoid Models (Soldiers, Generals, and pretty much everything that will make up for a ww2 game)

Weapons (blattsalat has a 'thing' for world war weapons, so you may be assured that everything in this pack will be an EXACT replica of the real thing..)

Heavy and Light artillery (Tanks, ballistics, planes, you name it.. we got it..)

Everything animated and ready to rock 'n roll(Everything is fully animated, and completely compatible with the Intense Ai engine. Either you buy this pack along with the Ai engine or not, these ww2 pack is for you)


Ok, I won't advertise any longer, I feel like these guys on midnight advertisment TV shows who just won't shut up and keep praising their product on and on and on.... until you fall asleep:)

I started the Intense Series, firstly because I could, and secondly because I felt like the community would greatly benefit from it. There are lots of people who have amazing and very original game ideas, but they hardly manage to go through the first stages of game production, because they have to deal with basic things like Ai, pathfinding, etc, etc.. My goal is to build a ground level for them, so that they can take the time to work on their ideas instead!

Of course, I can't just give my work away like that. I have spent many many months on this project, so I'll have to get something back in order to keep working on it. So I want to take this opportunity to ask everyone who is interested in this project to list All the features they would like to see in the Basic version of Intense Ai, and the price they would be willing to pay for it. I do intend to make an Advanced and a Proffesional version as well(I know, the edition names ain't too original, but they do their job..) so please don't storm these thread with too crazy features, like driving Tanks or Bones animation for now. Keep in mind, that the more features you ask for the Basic version, the more time I'll have to take to make them, and the higher the price will be.. So be sensible:)

At best I get 20 fps when running on low quality.

Hmmm, if you get the Low Fps from the beginning of the demo, I'm betting that there's something to do with the level(the ground uses a shader) and your card.. If the fps starts to get Low when the bots come in, then for some reason my Ai won't play well with your pc..

any one else had an fps problem?


I would really appreciate all feedback you got for this demo. I'll be trying to make the first version soon but I really hoped that the community will give me some hints and pointers first, as to how they like the work this far and what they'd like to see next.

I'm thinking of making a technical video which displays how the Ai works, which will be a smaller file than the 50mb demo one, but I'd like to know if its enough interest for this project first...

GForce2MX, yup, bad fps.
I think its too many sprites and polys in view at any one time as well.

i downloaded ran high but it wouldnt work... my monitor would go into sleep mode...?
medium works fine no preformance hit for me but i didnt like the cotrols and mouse was too sensitive soo was hard to play so cojuldnt really "test" ai...

Obviously this level is poorly constructed from a visibility standpoint. Having level blocks in the middle of a large terrain area is not a good idea, unless they are entities with LOD.

Anyway, if i were you i wouldnt try to to sell this, the AI seems to be worse than the standard template AI.. they stand in one place and shoot at you. The artwork is not worth paying for either, better models can found for free on the net.

It was running 18-35 fps on high, 25-60 fps on low for me.

The AI is OK, but probably not up to a selling level yet. The last time I played an enemy soldier was still standing after I killed him, even though he had a blood spot below him. And for some reason, one enemy was hanging up in the air. That only happened once out of about 5 times I played it though.

The demo worked just fine for me, but then I have a high end system. I ran it a few times and didn't see any obvious glitches. I'll have to check in again when you have more done.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. This helps to get out all bugs and issues out of the ai pack.

+about the speed:
Since this is the unoptimized beta test level it is on the higher edge. One major problem for the gs engine is to handle lots of transparent sprites. There is a workarround but not implemented yet.
The buildings use lod in 4 different stages and are not the neckbreaker here. The sprites and used shaders are lowering the fps but we are working on the new level and cleaning it up.

+ the ai itself is in the first run and is doing quite a well job (to compare it with the standard gs ai onto the same level doesnt fit at all if you ask me). there are lots of things and bugs to get out but thats what a beta is here for. Also its just showing a fraction of what it can once its finished.
So we are thankful for any hints and tips you can give us about the ai. Wrong or none reactions, errors in the anims and all other things you find.
This will help to improve the ai.

+about the gfx quality: its hard to argue about something like that. But if you feel like its not worth buying it then just dont do it. Its an offer and you will have to pick for yourself.
Since this is also the beta run for the models ingame they will now get improved as well. Its the first shot and you dont expect everything to work 100% when you try the first time


So please let the info and input coming so we can improve the ai pack as good as possible.

I thought the artwork was great, and the ai was great too. Maybe my card is the cause for the s-l-o-w performance though. If all you have to do is make a level more "cheap card friendly" then you really have done great. There is so much you have accomplished, you have a good set of tools. Thumbs up from me.

Ok, that must be the intro video codec. I got some other computers that couldn't handle it on certain resolutions as well..

Damn, it seems like I overdid it with eye candy here, that I buried that actualy ai down... hmmmmm

Ok I think I got the picture here.. you don't like it so much....

Therefore, I'm gonna make a Technical video, plus another demo with a much simplier blocked level that I'll build myself(it's gonna be horrible..). The latest two should have a better chance showing the Ai's capabilities than this one..

I'll work on this tomorrow though.. I don't feel like working on an army game on valentine's day..

Well, now that's new.. I dunno why he did that, the soldiers weren't really supposed to do that.. I'll try to reproduce that some time.. a screenie would help though..

Thanks man.. I really appreciate the thumbs up at this point.. This thread got me depressed


I'll build that cheaper level and maybe I'll put a friendly Ai or two inside as well, so that you can watch the ai in action from "behind the enemy lines"


Thanks for all your feedback.. I understand you couldn't evaluate this demo very good by being too big and too heavy.. Me and blatsallat will work on that and we'll keep working for some better feeback next time.


Thanks and keep the posts coming. I still got no wanted feature List for the Basic version. If you think the Ai is too simple right now, what else would you like to see in it?
