Running Food - Playable Demo

Hello all!

Some of you might remember our first demo, posted about a year ago. Well, we feel the game has improved quite a bit since then, so now it is time for another demo.

Those of you who were at the DUSMania 7 have already seen this - all others enjoy the 4 playable levels!

Readme is included, here is a screenshot:

And here is the link: Playable Demo

Have fun! Feedback is appreciated. :-)

it definately needs shadows and even if they are just some blop sprites!
add them, it will do miracles!

The creatures already have blop sprites, but they are at alpha = 50!
You are right, the shadow is too weak.
I will increase that value!

That last shot looks really great - Good use of colours. The shadows also add tremendously... I've really got to give ventilator's supertrace plugin a go!

Hi all,

I'm in need of some feedback! I'm still not happy with the cover, but I want to hear how it appears to you, before I proceed.

The german words are meaning something like this:

"They are stupid and greedy (always hungry and eating),
but they belong together!

Food On The Run"

Honestly, I think its horrible.
The font is bad and hard to read, especially the colors.
The model shots look like they've been stamped onto a generic sand background.

No offense though ^^

Do not underestimate people because they have a low post count... :0

Thanks very much for the feedback!

What, if I scale everything a bit down, to give the background an own place?

Maybe, I actually have to arrange the models in a special level with background.

If you want to make the text more readible (which I advise) you need to remove that very front green guy covering some letters. I'm not such a fan of those default photoshop effects such as outter brightness around the text, but it's not really all that bad, though, it just totaly doesn't fit the background . Maybe it's best to give the background and text each a seperate section on the cover. Perhaps putting some screenshots as 'polaroid-like pictures' of several levels on the cover is an idea?

I don't like it either.

I think the Title of the game should be at the top, and under it the slogan.

Also the background is too disturbing, maybe pick something simpler and present the models.

I never made any background for a game so i don't have much experience with it. Maybe you could look at covers of a simliar kind of game (which could be hard to find with this unique game ^^) but this might help.

Add oil, as my chinese girlfriend would say now.

Pardon?

You are right, I used the Photoshop Effects extensively!

At the moment I think, it is the best to arrange the models within a scene like a photographer with light and shadow to expose certain parts and hide others.

There are a lot of things which I would improve:

- "Futter auf der Flucht" has a very strong connection to the gameplay, but it sounds very negative, nothing nice to play.

- the same with "sie sind dumm und gefrässig, aber sie gehören zusammen" - maybe worser. Not attracting!

- The dices have a special textures on them and I know why (the dices are making a big picture if they are stitched together during the story), but this is totally worse for the viewer. The dices also look akward because they have no eyes and the stuff doesn't fit nicely together - on this screen! Don't get me wrong, I see the eye-balls and this sort of "funny" drawn pupils. But this is very disturbing to the viewer.. I dont really like it. Please draw "straight" pupils.

- The whole thing looks also "not so awesome" because you are using actual game models - that is bad, especially with that lowpoly environment and wrong lighting and shadowing on the characters. Better make a render image with other textures which are cleaner and more joyful.

- Plus, they are just "standing around". In connection with the title which means motion and speed, .. it is in total opposite to the figures on the image.

- As I know, the green things are the food of the dices. But the reader watches only their back (no eyes??). Worse enough, one big green thing is in front of the title.

- You should use a better font for that subtitle and make a single logo of "Futter auf der Flucht". In addition, "running food" sounds better.. even if it is a german game - you don't know HOW many kids can speak english. They even learn that on elementary school. And please dont use these shadow/glow gimmicks. They don't work.

- You should revamp your whole product design when it comes to marketing things. I know that you have a small budget, but this "thing" is freaking me out

You have a lot of really cool locations in your game. Nevertheless, this image makes me freezing... goosebumps.. and so on. I really apologize if you feel offensed, but you should focus on finishing the game rather on coverdesign and hire/ask someone that has more skills on this topic.

Cheers,
Christian
