1000th post: River Bend Project FINISHED!
Saved my 1000th for this.... Check! Check! Is this thing on? Your attention please! Nordic Epitaph Games after 2 3/4 years, Has completed and released the River Bend Project. We sold our first 10 copies at the resort last weekend. The first level is a re-creation of the River Bend Resort in Watertown Wisconsin. the other 9 or so levels are, well not real places We promised to let the forums have the game for free for a few days, also to give CC's, though I dont know how much time there will be to make changes now that we've moved on to contract work for Novint. I babble a lot, so lets just let it be. Download, play, and hopefully enjoy! Please be brutal and honest with commentary, but try and state bad AND good things if any. Theres no DirectX included with this version, and it's approx 75 MB download. Our Gift to you all... (then you'll have to pay if you miss the free download) - Ride the waterlides! - Shoot UFOs! - Fly in a Spacecraft! - Destroy the Mothership! - Try to Survive! Jason River Bend Project Free Download I'll hand the mic over to Dennis.....

I'd like to clarify, I want a faster cooldown time between shots, he wants longer reloading at the end of the clip.
And about my problems last night with the 10th level (the reactor level), I think there might be a problem with the matenance door code, whenever I try to open the faulty door, it crashes

hey hey everyone, i just read through the whole topic... I'm surprised about the crashes, i've seen it in action over at a friends house. I have absolutely no idea why this is happening... as said before (and as i may hope so) it's cuz of the installer. Maybe an idea to jason, but put online a .rar/.zip file for people here to unzip, i guess everyone here isnt that stupid to not know what to do with those @ Trooper119 thanks for all the input and testing, I appreciate it ALOT. mind if i keep you in mind, for my own future games i make, as a beta-tester? also, yeah, about the cart, it took me like 2 years to understand the whole concept of physics in this engine. I've been testing A LOT! ask anyone around me Anyway, we got a lot to do, keep testing, and thanks regards,

Ok I changed my mind, I would PREFER an installer over just zipped files, so FIRST I want to try a new installer file. The download link on the first post leads to the download called RBPnewinstall.exe Please give that a shot and see if there's any difference. We first used 'Create Install' and now I just used 'Install Creator' similar names If this doesnt work, i'll try a RAR file with all the contents. Again, I know more than 3-4 people have downloaded the game. It would mean a lot to us if more people would take the time to comment on it's performance and general CC's. As a community we all count on each other to help. This way we can all learn about any problems and gain solutionsfor our projects. We have turned over the whole game for free to the gamestudio community, something not many people do. Please return the favor and assist us in our search for solutions. Thank You! Jason

My thoughts exactly, I'll try to attempt all of your solutions (or at least until I find a solution that works perfectly).

thanks for all the input and testing, I appreciate it ALOT. mind if i keep you in mind, for my own future games i make, as a beta-tester?
I appreciate the praise, but I simply love games, and while I can't concieve why I love programming things, I simply do, so hey, put 2 and 2 together, and I'm in bliss. And about the beta-testing, I'd really like to be able to do this kind of work, and as long as I have the time, I'll give anyone's game a once over for bugs. To further the subject, while I'd rather make games then play others, if anyone were to let me into the loop of making the game, I'd love to help (unforchanately I won't falsely advirtise myself, I am in college, so at times I am booked and at others I have all the time in the world)

Yes, I loved the cart, it's clear you spent a lot of time with it, the only problem is it is only in one level that I see, I think you could pull more out of it than you did, but the game is at the release stage, oh well.

Will do
I'll get back to you soon with the instalers and other download options, keep your eyes peeled.

Alright, I just uninstalled, kept the save file, and am now uploading the new file, I'm not sure if this is my connection all of a sudden has jumped up or you have a great server but I've gotten from 650kb/sec-1000kb/sec when downloading when I usually get 400kb/sec. Do you know what is causing this, it rocks?
LOL, "test test test" what a great description, nice way to get things to upload quicker, this is installing in a new directory, so to keep things from corupting any files, I'll see if I can do a run to the last level without crashing with this fresh copy. I'll let you know what happens.
The new installer, ummm, how should I put this, I know good and bad....
Good:
-Looked more professional, actually put a folder in my start->programs file, the other one didn't -This one created less on my desktop than the other one did
Bad:
-Everying, there seemed to be lag or something where there wan't any in the other installer, things like the jetpack weren't nearly as effective, I was having a difficult time just getting over the fence at a given point. And once I got to the cart, none of its controls worked, it didn't shoot or move. -After playing the game a second time with this installer, it definately lags, sorry to repeat myself -When I plugged in the save and warped to Level 10, it still crashed when I tried to enter the door to matenance, then again, this could have been the saved game that was the problem, not the instaler -It seems that I could mess with the cart before I got in it, and if I did this, it could cause problems, with some convincing (banging on the keyboard and mouse) I did get the cart to work somewhat properly (the second time around) it just didn't work the same as the previous version, for example once I pressed the button to shoot, it took a while before it charged up, fired, and then I didn't get the kickback (and sometimes not at all) until 10 seconds after the firing. -The first time it crashed (on the second trial) was at the asteriods again, I'll try two more times, but it doesn't seem to work, same as last time.
-On my third trial through (at this point I've deleted the old save game and resaved, I don't think this caused any problems, but I've only crashed once since then, at that was past the matenance door. -I've lost track after 15 crashes on the reactor level, I'm almost back to the elevator, i seem to have 3 seconds before it crashes each time now, maybe if I move a little, save, crash, rinse and repeat, I'll make it -I give up, I think it has crashed 50 different times on me or more, I can only get within 20 feet of the elevator before it crashes on me, let's go to the next option.

Again, I ran the installed version with no problems, I really don't know whats going on...
IX webhosting, they're great, good download speeds usually.
I have just uploaded a RAR file now with all the contents, no installer.
Guees now download the RAR file and see what happens....
Are you doing the normal procedures like having no other programs running etc etc?
Thanks for all the efforts!!

Yes, yes, that's what I've been trying to do, but just for kicks I'll turn off Windows Explorer and try again.
About the server, that's cool, I'll have to check them out.
No dice, the game still crashes, let me try the RAR way, that should work since the installers gave me different experiences when I played both. I'll let you know when it is done downloading and I start playing.
Almost done.
I think my computer is acting up, and that is contributing to some of the lag, when I loaded up the new level, it improved, but it still had a little bit of lag in it. So far I've made it to the reactor level again and the only time I had an issue is was when I was trapped against a wall with a UFO, and couldn't shoot it because it was to close, after battling for like 30 seconds, my health got to about half way, and the game crashed, but this may be because I was battling a UFO 1mm away from me.
LOL major blooper moment, when I retried the level, and got above the reactor I got the key and pressed the button to "unlock the consul" and when I jumped for the reactor button that was below me I missed. When this happened I fell to the reactor floor and instead of dying like I thought I would, I sat there, battleing the ufo's over head, when moving around I found a hole in the level and fell through onto the main surrounding sky box (actually it was solid brick but you get the picture) and I sat there battling a couple more ufo's before I loaded back to a previous save.

Very cool scenery, I assume the reactor blew because now after some shaking and me going back up the elevator the garden is half destroyed, I'll assume this is the 11th level since the archatecture has chaned, so I'll restart my good and bad review
Level 11:
Good:
-Looks like there is some fog in this level, unlike before, nice environment change, cool explosion sound and shaking -There are broken doors and and walls and things, very cool, pardon me but I'm not going to explore very far, I'm just going to head over to the secret entrance (by the way you never explained why I should go to the secret entrance instead of my ship), this is a weird change of events
Bad:
-I got the key and the health at the waterfall and when I went back to the door to leave for my ship, the girl said I had to check the waterfall first.
Level 12:
Good:
-Again nice destructive environment -Look at all the enemies, I lost track after like 20 of them, ahhh, there everywhere, then it crashed
Bad:
-I need to find the emergancy teleporter, GREAT, that's conveniant, to bad I remember seeing it but not where it is...

I'll let you guys on a little secret, the second time through the last level I just ran for my mesly life, those UFO's scared me. Some closing comments though, don't worry, only one thing I might change. The ending sequence was pretty cool looking, I like the teleporter and the effect it created. Nice twist at the end, very creative, if you could see me right now, I'd do a standing ovation, good thing I wasn't attatched to my character, otherwise I'd be really ticked on how I ended up lol. I liked the ending though. The credits, nice effects to the credits I liked being in the movie theater again, it was a nice. "Hey! I remember this from x minutes/levels ago." as well as having the old style projector on screen too, it was a nice touch. The only thing I might change is your credits don't officially end, you just sit thinking, can I exit now, it is anti-climatic? @BlueBeast You talked about being glad about having unlimited ammo and fast reload for the end of the game, when I was fending them off in the first attempt (before it crashed, sorry I have no idea if I could have made it or not, fighting) I couldn't fire at anything but the enemies, there was barely 5 feet of space before another enemy would pop up. You may want to ease up on the enemies, or make it so they thier spawning ends after a while. But very nice game both of you, if you need more testing or anything at all, just get a hold of me, I'll be hanging around this thread for a while still. Oh yes, one more thing...

The reactor should have given every indication that there was a problem shutting it down. Did it turn red and with a bunch of flickering lights and an alarm? When you fall or jump from the ledge, it was set up to go to the options screen, but it didnt apparently, another thing Ill look into since it works here The voice thing again was due to no if's and when's in the code, something that will be fixed so you won;'t hear clues you already know about. The 'feature creep' list has a better reason to go to the secret room. Right now you must go to get the red key to leave the level. Back to the emergency teleporter, there's a lot of enemies due to their long spawn times, a person could just fly right through the level and avoid all conflict. Here they can just run like hack and still anticipate being hit. It would be great if you'd give a quick run through the previous levels as well. We'd like to know if the problems were more/less/equally frequent when using the rar file instead of the installer. The end credits i'll put down to add a 'hit escape' panel or something when you're able to. Probably also do the spacebar thing again with the credit screens. Glad you made it to the end (finally ) It would be so nice if not only one guy would chime in about their experiences though, the crashing thing has to be figured out for sure! Thanks though Trooper for stepping up to the plate and helping! Everyone else please help.. did you get crashes? Did it run too slow? Did the game just suck rocks ? Please, we all need each other's help as a community! Thanks! Jason
