RUDI - the secret Christmas project
"On the Night before Christmas Eve, something went wrong... and there is only one reindeer to make it alright." TRAILER:youTubehigh quality trailer on my page: RUDI game page GALLERY:click here to get to the galleryThe elves were about to deliver the last gifts to Santa Claus. Unfortunately, they didn't notice that all the toys got lost into the starry sky... now it is on you to collect all lost presents to save Christmas! "RUDI" is an open source Christmas game. Experience fun and action in a living & graphically stunning world packed with passion and wonder, elves, sweet penguins, eskimo villages and lots of gifts to collect. Travel around the world with Rudi - the presents got lost everywhere. Each gift you collect adds a sleigh to your chain.. don't cross them! Santa will give you some delicious gingerbread cookies for every sleigh at the end of each level, so make sure to collect as many as possible! Rudi is a game for everyone. Beginners can start promptly, without reading a manual. You will control Rudi with the cursor keys only. If you are a hardcore gamer, you will love it too, as some packets are really well-hidden and require a lot of skill to capture them. As if that were not enough, we added a complete do-it-yourself game development workshop! Create your own games with the A7 game engine with ease and the help of this well-structured e-book. Learn about the development process, the game mechanics and its tricks. Code examples and pictures will guide you through it and make game development a pleasure. One level demo featuring the Northpole will be released on Christmas Eve 2007. Developed by Christian Behrenberg in association with trisymphony.com. We support the Creatice Commons, therefore we use some music done by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) for the soundtrack. The game source is GPL licensed, the packed game distribution is free and the workshop is licensed under a Creative Commons license. The game will be released on Christmas Eve 2007. So, further information will be added here. C&C are welcome. Please visit my site: http://www.christian-behrenberg.comCheers, Christian

Great but a question If the guide be avalaible in english also thanks
Thanks for the replies.
Currently it is only available in German, because it is very long and we had to make decisions so that we can release it both in time. If we had translated it, we had'nt had that time.
It depends on the community - I am not willing to translate everything on my own (> 180 pages and growing), so if anyone is interested, call me.
Cheers, Christian

Hey, thank you, but you should celebrate your birthday (best wishes!) with your family rather than here in the forums Quote:
Is it full 3d? Can you jump on platforms for example or is it 2D terrain with .5D rendering?
It is full 3D - there is a small hidden mountain path in the west of the level with one tricky Christmas present: when you collect it, you have to jump down through a broken fence to save yourself and then you have to make a quick turn before you crash into some pine trees. This first level is supposed to be very "plain", but I intend more "3D" environment elements in future levels.
Quote:
Let me know if you want to MP it... it would be very simple to convert it to a head-to-head (or nose-to-nose?) competative 2+ player network game, especially if in 3D.
Indeed! But I want to finish at least two more levels and some missing gameplay elements.
Thanks for your nice words. I hope you won't be disappointed when you play it, and/or you dive into the sourcecode (the source of version 0.1 will be released under the GPL).
Cheers, have a nice cake, Christian

Hello folks, I am proud to announce that RUDI v0.1 has been finally released! You'll find the full game, the source (GPL) and the workshop (currently only available in German) on my website, which is http://www.christian-behrenberg.comHave fun with it and maybe you can leave me a line or two if you like it. In addition, maybe you can show it to your relatives, your friends, your wife, your children etc., maybe they like it, too. If you know some blog authors or so, maybe you can ask them to write some short sentences about it so that the game's popularity will raise? That would be really awesome! I am also looking for people who are able to contribute something to the project when we will continue it in 2008. This could be content contributions, money, music or whatever. So, if you like, you are maybe able to help us. The last few days were a bit crazy, mainly caused by the fact that I had no internet access and I am not 100% sure when I will get my connectivity back. So, I apologize if I don't answer in a second or two. Best regards, Christian
