Which version of Max? Have you tried the exporter plug-in? There is a free trial version.

you can export each key frame from 3dsmax as a .3ds file then load/import the first frame into med using import model for 3ds , then use append mesh for 3ds for each of the other frames... this is a slow way to do things but it does work.

I am using max 8 and fbx exporter.
.3ds comes with materils ?
I dont think so.
I dont know to give skin in med.
Please tell me the name of exporter.

I know I am late... Sorry.

If you use bone animation with BIP files in 3DS Max,
If you use Vertex Animation in MED,
Max2MDL works perfectly (at least with 3DSMax 2008).

This plugin comes with very useful options.
Suppose you use a bip file to build "WALK" animation. In 3DSMax, this might give more than thirty frames. With Max2MDL, you just have to set the number of frames you want in MED (for example 6).
You can also set the name of these 6 frames (WALKxx) and, at last, you can merge this WALK sequence to an existing model.

What is bad ? no bones export... But so easy to use !!!!
