Yes, but obviously they must have had the same problem back then as now, as in they couldn't prove the existence of God either... it was simply an accepted idea and if you didn't agree they simply imprisoned or killed you, nothing more. Hence, whatever people said in 'name of their God' was also 'said' by their God, obviously ruining all the credibility.
