This video game might be of interest for the game programmers attending this forum, evolutionism being one of the most popular topic
Some time ago I read a book by Richard Dawkins
He was looking for expert graphic programmers to work togheter on a visual simulation of evolution
He might be still interested , if some one wishes to contact him..
Obviously you can not expect to go from a single spore to a galactic civilization, like in the game, but , according to him, it should be possible to obtain some interesting results
The fossils demostrate that the first animals were like the creatures of the game
Eyes on the tail, ears on the legs etc
Everywere but on the head

To me, Will Wright is more of a scientist whose tools are games than a Game Designer who makes science based games.

Richard Dawkins is very much aware of the game and it's implications (as evidenced by his forum), thus I would not be surprised if he has already been contacted numerous times on this subject, especially from Will himself.

If so , I will purchase the game
By the way I found it on Dawkins' site

One of Einstein's most eagerly quoted remarks is 'Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.' But Einstein also said,

It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.

Did I miss something over the past two years with Spore.

When Will Wright posted the demo of Spore two years ago, Spore look more photorealistic.

Now the creatures look like something Disney would create. I am having trouble deciding if the game has been to kiddiefied and watered down.

Seems odd let's go take our cute virtual stuffed animals and let them loose and see if they will survive in an evolving world.

OH it's just my observation, but I prefer the style Will used two years ago, not this cartooney crap now...

Ken

Yes, these creatures look like Disney cartoons
A part from the game, what I meant is that the first creatures were really so ridicoulus
If you mention the word "evolutionism" normally people think of the dino's
Up to a certain extent you might even beleive that dino's have been created by an intelligent architect but if you look at the shape of creatures which have been populating our seas for milions years before the dino's , even the more fanatic creationist should have some doubt

I couldn't agree more, I also think it's a bad thing they changed the visuals so much. However I think the game will be a little bit outdated when it comes to graphics.. and this is the only way to camouflage this... it worked for The Sims and will work for Spore again, no doubt.

Also the recent trend making more colorful games is still ongoing, so I doubt EA nor Will Wright will worry much about this.

Cheers

Remember the long technical path from demo to release and I suspect you have your anwser. Like all of his games, it's refreshing that if the decision is "graphics or gameplay" -- as I believe the case was here -- he always goes "gameplay".

You don't see much of that in the AAA industry these days.

Actually nowadays graphics rule but I am still convinced that an intriguing game play is much more important
I do hope that spore, regardless of the graphics, can simulate a sort of super simplified but true evolution, whithout cheating , I mean
From this point of view the choice of cartoon like rather than photorealistic creatures could have been a choice to have more flexibility

hm... Spore is scientific? It seems to be more a game about intelligent design.
